Jewellery Care

How do I care for my jewellery?

With the correct knowledge about jewellery care, you will be able to admire and wear your piece of jewellery for a lifetime. Read below for details essential for jewellery care.

Storage

I provide each piece of jewellery in a box, so when its not being worn you have a safe place to keep it. Alternatively, a jewellery box, or ring holder is a perfect option.

Cleaning

Sterile silver naturally tarnishes over time, this is because the metal reacts to oxygen in the environment causing oxidisation. It can also depend on how acidic your skin is, if you have acidic skin, you piece will tarnish faster.

I provide a polishing cloth with each order, the cloth has polishing compound within it. This should be more than enough to clean your piece, Gently rub over the surface of the silver

with the cloth to shine (do not wash the cloth), it might appear blackened in places after use, this is normal.

If you cannot use the polishing cloth, you can always use warm soapy water and an old toothbrush, I always suggest a natural soap which is mild and gentle. Try to avoid any stones when using soap.

Water

Water seems harmless, right? Wrong!
Contrary to popular practice, jewellery should be removed before washing, showering, swimming etc. All gemstones react differently to water, few are fine, but others can crack and become damaged after water exposure. The most delicate of all is the opal, water can cause the colour of the stone to change, or give the stone a milky cloudy look.

Chemicals

All chemicals should be avoided at all costs, including soaps, sanitisers, lotions, beauty products, perfumes and cosmetics. Remove jewellery before using any o these products.
